Wat is Android?
Android is a mobile operating system that was developed by Google. It is used by more than 70% of all smartphones and tablets. Nearly all phone manufacturers that aren’t Apple, like Samsung, LG and Nokia use Android. Android is based on the Linux kernel. Unlike Apple’s iOS, Android is open-source, which means that the different manufacturers can all add their personal flavor to the system. That is why Android phones may look different from each other.
What does a Android developer do?
Android developers have a good idea of how the Android platform is constructed, and how apps interact with the operating system. Android is written in Java, although they are slowly transitioning to Kotlin. Hence, an Android developer is familiar with at least Java, and often Kotlin as well. Android developers work with the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) and use mostly Android Studio for programming.
Android programmers are good at combining front-end and back-end aspects to create a well-functioning app. They also have a good understanding of Google’s Android designing principles and guidelines. They can adapt very well and are aware of the newest technologies on the market.
